Room 229 - Wednesday Afternoon

So Kurt had handwavily told Guillermo about the issues that he had sleeping in his bed and had asked about the possibility of swapping it for something more suitable and so Guillermo thought that while they were doing that they could also work on officially finishing unpacking and setting up their room.

Guillermo had unpacked his clothes and things like that away in his wardrobe but the really important stuff - like his action figures and posters and all of his movies and tv shows and books needed to find the perfect place to display his collection.

“Our room is going to be awesome when it’s finished,” Guillermo grinned as he surveyed the room, he got out his duffel bag that had all of his geeky memorabilia with him so that it was ready when they were able to get to that part of decorating their room.

"It's going to be the coolest room in the entire dorm!" Kurt exclaimed as he pulled out the suitcase and bag from under the bed and started finally unpacking more than just his clothes.

"I mean, I bet no other room in this place is going to have a cool hammock like this!!" he said turning and holding up the appropriately colored hammock with a grin.

“That is definitely true,” Guillermo grinned, as he started to take out his posters, “it’s definitely an awesome hammock, no one has probably changed a bed for a hammock before in the dorms,” which Guillermo had been briefly tempted getting one as well but then realised his own size would make sleeping in an a hammock a bit awkward so had quickly dismissed the idea as quickly as it came.

"Hey, those are cool-looking posters!" Kurt said as he looked over the first few. "I recognize Interview With a Vampire. But what are the other ones there?"

“So this one is meta for Nosferatu and this one is Christopher Lee’s Dracula Prince of Darkness,” Guillermo said excitedly as he showed Kurt the different vampire movie posters that he had, “and then I have a poster for the 1931 Dracula with Lon Cheney and the 1992 Dracula as well,”

"These are all so cool!" Kurt said, examining the posters more closely. "I know the basic story of Dracula. I never realized there have been so many versions of him though."

“They’re all great, I love the book as well, I’m going to have to see if there’s been anything new made about vampires recently, try and catch up,” Guillermo grinned.

Someone didn’t know about meta for Twilight yet and that sparkly vampires were a thing.

Oh that could make for some interesting late night movie horror for both the geeks.


"Good thing there's a lot of wall space and some shelves already here for us to work with," Kurt said with a grin. "Cuz you look like you have enough there to fill it all up and then some."

Kurt turned to consider his side of the room for a moment and where best to set up the Hammock.

"Guillermo, what do you think?" he asked, holding up the Hammock in one of the corners opposite the bed. "Was thinking one of the corners so it doesn't take up a lot of space. It's how I had it set up back home. Think it would work good for us here?"

"I definitely brought most of my collection, Illayana said a lot of people use streaming sites now or something so I guess a lot of the dvds are obsolete now but they're still cool to display," he said, returning the grin.


Guillermo looked where Kurt was indicating, pushing up his glasses as he did, ""that should be a good spot, I mean we can always adjust as its needed, right to make sure we get in the right location?"

"Yeah a lot of things now you can watch on your computer or even your phone" Kurt nodded as he spoke. "I don't mind using the computer, but I have yet to find a smartphone that is designed for hands like these," he said holding a hand up with a slight sigh and a laugh.

Turning his attention back to the corner he started working to get the hammock set up.

"I'm just glad these are decent-sized rooms. Back at the Academy, we shared rooms and the beds were all bunk beds with 2 to 4 people in a room!"

“I’ve been told my phone needs an upgrade,” Guillermo revealed, digging out his Nokia, “my mum made me take it to call her … I didn’t think phones could be computers though, all I can do on this phone aside from call and text is play snake,”

He had played a lot of that game since he had gotten his phone.

“Oh wow, are there a lot of people at the Academy? You’re actually the first roommate I’ve ever had,” he told Kurt shyly, “so I’m glad I got an awesome roommate my first time having one,”

There was a pause.

“Did you want me to help you set it up?” Guillermo offered when Kurt started to work on his hammock.

"There are so many phones and tablets and whatnot anymore, I can't keep up. We never had TV or much in the way of tech because we lived out in the country. I'd be a lot farther behind on things if it wasn't for Scott and Logan. I mean Scott got me the phone so I could call if I needed anything and Logan got me a new laptop right before I left. Still have no idea what half the things on them are for though!"

"And yeah. There were quite a few Mutants at the Academy. The Professor teaches a lot of younger Mutants, like me. And those that are really powerful and smart and good at what they do get to join the X-Men team. I have a long way to go but that is my dream, to one day be one of the X-Men! But ya know what? I think you are one of the coolest roomies I've had. At least I don't have to worry about your Mutant powers kicking in while your sleeping and turning the room into an icebox or anything" he said with a laugh.

"And I'd love the help," he said giving his roomie a grin. "These things are always so cumbersome to get set up!"

"Oh wow is the X-Men like a superhero team? An actual superhero team!" Guillermo's eyes were wide as he walked over to help with the hammock, "that is really cool," he exclaimed, "and yeah nothing to worry about anything like that from me, unless the shelves collapse from the weight of my dvds and stuff though," he said with a grin.

Guillermo was going to feel a bit awkward later about this conversation when his own abilities started to kick in.

"Yeah, they are a really cool team of Mutants with special powers. They do a lot to protect people and try to make things better. For humans and Mutants alike" Kurt said a bit wistfully.

"And no worries about it. If you suddenly start being able to levitate things or fly or whatever I got your back!"

After all, he knew what it was like trying to learn to control and live with special powers and abilities. Heaven knew he was still figuring a lot of it out himself... especially the whole teleporting thing.

“Well at least I’ll be in good hands if that ever happens,” Guillermo grinned, and maybe a small part of him hoped that might happen but he doubted it, “but wow that must be a cool team to be a part of though,” he exclaimed, “does everyone have different powers?”

"Oh yeah there's all sorts of Mutants out there. On the main team, the X-Men have powers like laser vision, weather control, mind control, healing factors, super strength, super speed, and shapeshifting."

“Oh that is definitely awesome,” Guillermo grinned, “I never knew anything like that could be real until I came here,”

"So, are superheroes and Mutants and all that considered make believe in your world?" Kurt asked as he got the one end of the hammock situated.

I’ve only ever seen them in movies and comics and things like that,” Guillermo nodded, “my friend Jeremy and I do LARPING all the time back home but that’s the closest I’ve ever gotten,” he admitted.

"I... I've heard of LARPING before but don't know a lot about it" Kurt admitted. "It sounds like fun though!"

“Oh it is,” Guillermo nodded, “I even have a name and everything for my character,” he paused, “Guillermo the Great,” he revealed shyly, “it’s also the name I’d pick if I was ever to become a vampire,”

"That's cool. You have your own codename in a way. Like most of the Mutants I know do!" Kurt hesitated a moment, feeling a little shy as well about revealing his for some reason. "Mine is Nightcrawler" he revealed with a slight grin.

“Oh wow that is definitely an awesome code name,” Guillermo grinned, “did you choose it or was it assigned to you?” it was something he was always curious about when it came to codenames.

"Most of us pick our own. Sometimes it's based off something to do with our powers, other times not. One guys back home, his name is Logan, but his code name is Wolverine. He had retractable metal claws, a metal skeleton and super-fast healing... and the temperament of a wolverine, so... it fits" Kurt said with a laugh.

"Another one goes by Storm because she can control the weather! And me, well...Nightcrawler is kinda a mix of how I look, the fact I love the nighttime, and that I can do this" he said as he crouched down and then started to climb up the wall a bit and turned to give Guillermo a wave and grin from up near the ceiling before dropping back to the ground a moment later.

Guillermo definitely started clapping like the dork that he was, "that was incredible," he said, "oh wow, they all sound amazing," he grinned, " does your training involve a lot of work? How do you balance it with school?" sorry Kurt, Guillermo thought this was all amazing and wanted to know everything.

And Kurt was perfectly fine with it- he was just glad to have someone actually want to talk and not just interested in attacking him or making fun of him. So ask way roomie!

"The training I am doing right now as one of the newer and younger ones at the Academy is a lot of learning to use my powers. To better control them and get better at how I can work with the team. I've been able to teleport for about 5 years or so but it's just within the last year or so that I really started mastering it and figuring out what I can and can't do and expanding that as I get better at everything."

Kurt gave his roomie a slightly sad grin as he continued.

"The school I went to before when I wasn't training or at the Academy was a regular high school. With human kids. The Professor says it is important I learn to live with humans but it's hard. Well, there it was. here it has been so much better and so amazing by comparison!"

He smiled and gave a little wink to Guillermo.

"Enough rambling about me for a bit. What about you? What was it like back home for you? Where were you going to school before coming to Fandom? I honestly don't know many... ummm... normal humans, no offense. I lived with my parents and didn't see many people, for obvious reasons. So I don't know much about things outside of my homeland or at the Academy. "

“I imagine learning teamwork would be an important skill with a superhero team,” Guillermo nodded, “oh no offence taken,” he assured him once he listened to Kurt explain what training with powers and going to school had been like.

Then Kurt asked about school for him and he hesitated just slightly.

“Oh …I went to a local school vaguely as canon hasn’t said yet,” Guillermo shifted a bit because his previous schooling had not been a lot of fun, “the other kids well …I mean … they were …” he stammered because he felt bad mentioning the bullying because he imagined that Kurt would have had it a lot worse than he did, “I only have one friend back home … that’s Jeremy, who I mentioned earlier? We mostly stuck together, one time that was actually literal - ” and he winced, realising he’d started to actually talk about the super glue incident, “yeah … other than church and stuff and being with Jeremy, I’m usually by myself - good thing I have my movies and tv shows and books and stuff,” he grinned, pushing up his glasses.

For a moment Kurt felt a little bad bringing up school and all. Guillermo had already mentioned before how he hadn't liked school and hadn't had that many friends. Kurt gave him a smile and reached out to put a hand on his shoulder.

"Well, looks like Fandom High is going to be a change for the better for us both," he said with a determined nod. "I mean, I already have the best roommate ever so it's already off to an amazing start!"

Kurt gave Guillermo a grin and turned his attention back to the hammock for a moment.

"Looks level to me. What do you think, Guillermo?"

Guillermo nodded, returning the smile, "same here, I'm definitely glad that I was able to come to Fandom High," he nodded, "and yes best roomies ever," he grinned.

He turned his attention to he hammock that Kurt was indicating, "it looks pretty good to me," he grinned and he gave it a thumbs up.

Kurt nodded in agreement and then took a few steps back, admiring how the corner was coming together so far.

"Now to test it," he said, still looking at the hammock.

The next instant he was gone in a small puff of purple-black smoke. An instant later he reappeared, laying in the hammock.

"Feels pretty good too!" he said with a laugh.

Guillermo’s eyes were wide as he watched Kurt appear and reappear, “that was amazing,” he breathed and then he focused back on Kurt testing the hammock, “oh that’s good, hopefully it will be more comfortable for you to sleep now,” he told him with a nod.

"Definitely should, thanks for the help!" Kurt sat up and nodded towards Guillermo's side of the room. "Need a hand.. or tail... with getting thigs set up over there?" he asked with a grin.

“I definitely won’t say no,” Guillermo grinned, “I do have quite a few to go up,” he indicated the posters that were spread out on his bed.

"Point me in the right direction and give me a job!" Kurt said with a grin as he jumped out of the hammock.

"Well I was thinking that the movie posters could go in chronological order of release date and all the vampire posters could go together," Guillermo grinned, "so if we start with Nosferatu from say the space above the bed?" he suggested, "what do you think?"

"Sounds like a great idea" Kurt agreed with a nod. "Can start there and work around your side of the room until we run out."

Kurt looked at the first one then turned back to Guillermo.

"You want me to hand them up to you?"

“That would definitely be great if you could do that, thank you,” Guillermo said with a grin.

"Sure thing! Here you go!" Kurt said as he handed the first poster over and got the next one ready. "So, how long has it taken you to collect all of these anyway?"

[guillermothegreat]

"Thank you," Guillermo grinned as he started to put the poster up, "well when I saw Interview with the Vampire I got my first poster then, so I was quite young when I saw it ... so its been about seven years or so that I've been collecting movie posters," he said.

"That is so cool!" Kurt said as he glanced over the posters that were out so far. "I've never been able to do much as far as collections and whatnot. Most of the time it was me and my Vati and Mutti" he said slipping back into his native tongue for a moment. "We lived in the country so it was just us most of the time. Us and the animals."

"I've never been in the country before, Fandom was my first time properly getting away from the city," Guillermo told him, nodding and then he tilted his head curiously, "what kind of animals did you have back home?"

"Couple farm animals mostly. We had a cow, some chickens, and a couple of goats" Kurt said before breaking into a small smile. "The animals I loved the most were the wild ones. I'd go out into the woods, and I guess because I didn't look like other people, animals weren't afraid of me."

“I never got to have any animals or things like that,” Guillermo told him, “I live in an apartment with my mum, there’s a strict no pets policy,” he said, “but it sounds nice being out in the country like that,”

"It was. Though it also was a bit lonely" Kurt admitted.

"I was never able to be around other kids for... obvious reasons. It wasn't until the Professor found me and I started at the Academy that I was really around a lot of other people. I had been on my own for a few years but it was hard when you can't fit in."

Kurt gave his friend a slight smile, figuring Guillermo understood that.


"Hey! Maybe we can see if there's a no pet policy here in the dorms!"

Guillermo nodded sympathetically, understanding what Kurt meant about not being able to fit in.

Then Kurt mentioned about finding out about the dorms pet policy, “ooh, that would be great, I saw that there was an animal shelter in town as well, maybe we could explore that option if we’re allowed pets?”
