Room 229 - Friday Morning

Guillermo found himself caring for a friend who had been turned into an animal for the second time in as many months, even though looking after Goose!Graham had proved to help keep him somewhat distracted.

He had spent most of the time holed up in his room, feeding Graham a lot of empanadas since he had made quite an extra amount of them and they did need to get eaten.

He also really hoped that eating all these empanadas as a Goose wasn’t going to hurt Graham later when he did turn back.

So he was lying on his bed, absentmindedly throwing pieces of empanadas to his friend who was now a Goose and feeling pretty miserable about the knowledge that he was meant to be a vampire hunter.

He had decided to keep the door closed though he didn’t want Graham to try and make a break for the hallway.

So the Goose!Graham thing was a bit odd, but Kurt had been a sugar glider so it wasn't all that odd really. Earlier that morning, Kurt had handwavely slipped out to go do some shopping and get some essentials for the currently three roomies sharing the space.

Some time later, Kurt stood outside the door, loaded down with bags. "Hey, Guillermo. It's me. Is it safe to come in?' he called out, not wanting to give their feathered friend a chance to escape.

Guillermo took the opportunity to distract Graham with a whole lot of empanadas so that he wasn’t going to notice the door, “it’s safe!” he called out to Kurt “but I would probably be quick, he’s going to eat these empanadas pretty quickly,”

"Aye! Coming in!" Kurt called out as he opened the door, rushed in, and quickly closed the door behind. Breathing a sigh of relief he grinned and held out a couple of the bags to his roomie.

"Here's the things from your shopping list, Guillermo. I got my things here and grabbed some stuff for us in general too. We should be set for a bit at least" he added with a grin.

Despite how he was feeling at the moment, Guillermo did manage a smile, "hey thanks man," he said, "this will definitely help and hopefully we don't have to keep venturing out and running the risk that Graham here will take a chance to bolt for the door, every time we have to leave,"

At that Graham honked and ruffled his feathers before he finished the last of the empanada that Guillermo had thrown to him but there was another one ready to throw to keep him distracted.

"Aye. I had thought about just porting to get in and out and I guess I still could. Just not sure if that would scare him too much" Kurt stated with a shrug. "Also, there is a chance he could accidently port out with me if he got too close and then we would really have a wild goose chase on our hands! So probably better to stay on the safe side, for now."

Kurt laughed and then fell silent as he watched his friend for a moment and then gave Guillermo a soft smile.

"Wanna talk about the weekend any? I know we both are kind of fuzzy about what we remember, but... if it would help... "

Guillermo did manage to grin at that, “I’d like to try and avoid any wild goose chases if I can,” he said, “I haven’t quite figured out if you can take a goose for a walk or not yet …” he considered, “maybe if I got a leash?” he paused, “I think it’s probably best to try and keep him inside for now,”

There was another pause, and he sat up, “I …I think I would like that, I - I ..”he bit his lip, staring down at his bracelets tv at Graham and Libby had made for him on his wrist, “I …found out that I’m related to Van Helsing,” he finally admitted.

Van Helsing. That name sounded familiar and then it hit... "Oh.... Helsing. THAT Helsing..." Kurt looked at his friend's expression and bit his lip slightly. Yeah, this was a tough one.

"Well, what do you remember from the weekend other than you are related to Van Helsing?" he asked softly. "Just being related to someone doesn't mean you will end up like them. I mean, there's probably a few not too nice people in my past, being so rooted in Germany and all (never mind an entire alternate reality where Kurt himself ended up on the bad side of history). Relations don't always equate destiny ... ya know?"

There was another pause and Guillermo looked a little guilty before he revealed his next bit, “I’m - I remember that I’m supposed to be a vampire hunter like he was,” he said softly, “I - I’m supposed to have powers as well,”

The idea of having powers would have been so much better if it didn’t mean he was supposed to kill vampires with them.

“I don’t want to kill vampires, I want to be one,” his voice getting softer and softer as he said it.

Kurt thought for a moment, not saying anything right away as he considered all that.

"Well, maybe only part of all that is what your destiny will be, I mean, I've heard a few people say these sorts of things are just possibilities. So all of it might be true, some of it might be true, or none of it might be true. Maybe... ya know... our futures are still open and able to be changed."

Guillermo processed that, taking a moment to throw another piece of empanada to Graham as he considered, “I - guess …” he said softly, “I just - what if I do meet a vampire one day? I don’t think they’ll like it if they know I’m related to the most famous vampire hunter of all time,”

Kurt nodded again thinking that detail over. "Well.... are.. I mean do most vampires read minds? I mean, unless you tell them, are they likely to know right away that you ARE related to Van Helsing?"

Kurt perked up a little as another thought entered his mind. "Maybe if they don't know right away, you can prove yourself to them and win them over without them ever knowing!"

Guillermo considered that, "I don't think they do?" he said, completely unaware that the vampires he would later work for were in fact psychic, "I ... guess if I hide that from them and they can see that I don't want to cause them harm that it will be okay?" he said softly.

"I - I could do that, couldn't I?" Guillermo looked a lot happier at that idea, "I don't - maybe if I figured out my powers or something I could use them to protect the vampires?"

Kurt gave his best friend a grin and nodded encouragingly. "Aye, it should work fine. And if it turns out they do find about the Van Helsing thing.... you could easily just claim you didn't know."

Kurt thought for a moment and then added enthusiastically, "And by that time, I'm sure you would have blown them away with your skills and such that they wouldn't think anything of it."

“That could work,” Guillermo said, with a tilt of his head, “I … I could still become a vampire, couldn’t I? If I prove myself to them,”

"Aye! The skills might have originally been from killing vampires, but if you know or learn how to kill vampires, you would also be better prepared for knowing how to protect them! It would actually be a bit of an advantage wouldn't it?"

Guillermo had not thought of that option at all and he did look much happier as he thought about that, “I could be like … some kind of bodyguard to them instead?” he tried, “use my powers to protect them against threats. I - wonder if there’s a way I can unlock my powers?” he wondered, “I don’t remember how my older self found out about that, but I'm ... apparently I'm meant to have really good fighting skills?"

He did look a bit doubtful at that since he knew he didn't look like someone who would be good at fighting.

"Hey looks aen't everything" Kurt said with an encouraging grin, having a fair guess at what Guillermo was thinking. "You're probably one of the best at what you will end up doing, partly because no one expects it! It is such a surprise they dont know to react and you can catch them off guard with those sweet moves you are going to learn!"

"And as far as unlocking these powers, we can also do some training and such. Kinda like we do back at the academy when new mutants are first learning what their powers are and what they can do with them. Couldn't hurt to try, right?"

Guillermo did smile at that encouragement, feeling a bit better about the fighting aspect of the powers he was supposed to have, "thanks," he said softly at that, "I guess it couldn't hurt, being able to start training ... maybe it will help unlock some kind of instinct and my abilities will come to me naturally?"

"And it could be natural anyways" Kurt pointed out. "Many Mutants come by their powers naturally as they get older, so maybe it will be like that for you?"

“It could … I wish I could remember more of the weekend, how my other self figured out his abilities,” Guillermo admitted, “but I suppose this is just part of the journey isn't it? Working out how I'm supposed to be a fighter and use my powers,"

"Yeah, it was an interesting weekend for sure" Kurt said, nodding. "I don't remember a lot either, other than that I did actually make it to be one of the X-Men! I don't know where and when it happens. But knowing it happens is amazing... that's been my dream ever since Professor Xavier found me a few years ago."

“Oh wow,” Guillermo grinned at that, “that’s incredible, I’m glad you do get to become an X-Men, I know how hard you’ve been working to achieve your dream,”

"Looks like the weekend has given us both a lot to think about and dream about" Kurt said with a grin. "It's really kind of exciting isn't it? So much to look forward to!"

Guillermo did smile at that, "I thought after the weekend that everything was going to change, that being related to a vampire hunter meant I couldn't become a vampire," he said softly, "but thank you, for listening and helping," he said, "I certainly never imagined that I could one day have powers, it is kind of cool to think about," he admitted.

"Hey no worries! What are friends for if not to brain storm and figure things out! And help watch a friend who's turned into a Goose for some reason" Kurt added with a laugh and a glance over at Graham.

Guillermo laughed as well, realising he hadn't fed Graham any empanadas for a while and picked up another one to throw a few more pieces to him, "I hope he turns back soon, I'm starting to think there's something wrong with our common room since it appears to keep turning people into animals," he added.

"Might have to talk to someone about that.... maybe someone from the Magic Shop could come and take a look. Make sure there's nothing weird going on?"

Kurt watched Graham for a moment.

"It might not be the common room only... seems the adults even turn into animals often lately. Maybe it's just am island wide thing right now for some reason?"

“That could be an idea,” Guillermo nodded thoughtfully, “at least that way we could rule out that there’s anything magical going on right?”

He tilted his head, “I did hear on the radio there did seem to be a lot of animal transformations as of late,” he nodded, “at least more so than usual,”

"Maybe it's something more to do with the people who are turning into animals?" Kurt said thinking out loud a bit. "Like, maybe they are stressed about something, or are tired, or something and the island... kinda... I don't know... picks up on it and tries to give them a break or something?" He gave a small shrug and sheepish grin. "I mean the island is weird so that might not be too far into the crazy huh?"

Guillermo grinned at that, “I could see the island doing that, especially if it thinks it’s being helpful,” he paused, “hopefully everyone turns back to normal soon though, even though at least Graham is easily distracted with empanadas so I don’t have to worry about him trying to make a break for it,” he added.

"Less of a handful than an energetic sugar glider huh?" Kurt said with a smirk and a wink. "Though if he stays this way too long," Kurt pondered looking over at Graham, "we might have to try and get him into the tub or figure a way to get a kiddie pool or something set up. I'm pretty sure geese like the water and need to get wet now and then."

"You weren't that bad," Guillermo assured him, "well aside from when you snuck into class with me that one time, I was sure you were going to end up escaping and I'd never get you back to the dorms,"

He tilted his head at Graham, "I never thought of that, I did wonder if maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to let him outside for a while but I'm worried about him flying off," he admitted.

"Hehe yeah sorry about that." Kurt thought for a moment, watching Graham as he considered something. "I dont remember a lot about when I was an animal. But I do remember there was a sense of safety when I was with you. I wasnt afraid. it was like even in my tiny sugar glider brain I knew it was safe with you and I didn't want to go too far away. Maybe.... Graham would feel the same about you."

Guillermo did smile at that, “I’m glad you felt safe with me, I would have been horrified if anything had happened to you while you were a sugar glider,”

He paused as he considered Graham thoughtfully, “maybe if I had a lot of empanadas with me, Graham won’t try to fly away? I could leave a trail for him outside so that he can stay near?”

At the moment Graham was quite content to eat the pieces of empanadas that Guillermo kept throwing towards him.

"Maybe give him a break from the empanadas so they are bit of a treat when we do go? I think it might be ok. Or, we could always try the bathtub or the kiddie pool idea too" Kurt offered.

“I suppose we could do the bath tub, just …without all the bubbles this time,” Guillermo suggested with a sheepish grin, in his defence he had been really sleep deprived when he had thought that was a good idea.

"Hey, the bubbles were fun!" Kurt said with a laugh. "But yeah, might be best to skip them this time around" he agreed with a small nod.

"When Graham gets back to normal, maybe he can help us out with the training and all. Could be something the three of us could do to get ourselves in shape and stuff. Got plenty of room in the gym and of course there's the park and preserve and beach too if we really need space!"

“We could ask him and see what he thinks,” Guillermo nodded, “but I do like that idea, especially if I can figure out my abilities in the process,” he added.

"I could even get some tips and ideas from the team back home too!" Kurt said with a big grin. "Logan and Scott do a lot of the training with the new team members and students. I'm sure they would have some good ideas that could get us started!"

"It definitely wouldn't hurt," Guillermo returned the grin, feeling. a lot better about the idea of training and figuring out just exactly what being related to Van Helsing meant," it could be fun to try different ideas, see how we manage to go with them ... I think it'll take me a while to get the hang of training, I've only ever done PE and you saw how badly I did in the class," he added, rubbing the back of his neck with a sheepish grin.

"Eh PE class was a bunch of generic stuff. We can customize the activities and training so it should go a bit better" Kurt said with a supportive grin and a thumbs up. "We got this!"
